How to send your stories
Every user gets a private link to their own story. Here are three ways to get it to them. Most apps use email, and the big ones add a banner in the app too.
1. Let Yearcap email them
On the Season and Big year plans, Yearcap can send the emails for you. Your file needs a column with each user’s email address.
- Open your campaign’s dashboard and find Yearcap emails them.
- Check the subject and message. Each email starts with the user’s first name (if your file has one) and ends with a See your year button.
- Enter your email address. Replies go to you, and it’s where your test lands.
- Press Send me a test and look at it in your inbox.
- Press Email … users. Keep the page open until it says done. If it stops, press it again: it picks up where it left off, and nobody gets two.
The emails come from “Your app via Yearcap”. Each person gets one email, once, with an unsubscribe link.
2. Use your own email tool
Your users already know your emails, so these often get opened more. On your dashboard, press Download all links (CSV). The file has each user’s id, their email (if your file had one), their name and a story_link column.
- Import the file into your email tool as contacts.
- Keep
story_linkas a custom field. - Write the email and use that field as the link on your button.
- Send a test to yourself, then send it to everyone.
- Mailchimp: When you import contacts, map story_link to a new field. Mailchimp gives it a merge tag like *|STORYLINK|*. Use that tag as the button link in your email.
- Kit (ConvertKit): Import the file and add story_link as a custom field. In the email, link the button to {{ subscriber.story_link }}.
- Loops, Brevo, Customer.io and most others: Import the file, keep story_link as a custom contact property, then insert that property as the button link from the editor.
- Gmail, for small lists: Open the file in Google Sheets and use a mail merge add-on (YAMM is a common one). Gmail sends about 500 emails a day from a personal account and 2,000 from Google Workspace.
3. Show it in your app
This needs a developer, but it reaches people who never open email.
- Load the links file into your database, matched on your user id.
- Show signed-in users a banner or a card on the home screen: “Your 2026 is ready. See your year.” It opens their
story_link. - If your app sends push notifications, send one on the same day that opens the same link.

Subject: Your 2026 on Mossnote is ready
Hi Ava,
We turned your 2026 on Mossnote into a short story: your numbers, your best moments, and a card you can share. It takes about a minute.

When to send
- Early December. People are in the mood for year-in-review, and you’re ahead of the big apps’ recaps.
- One send is enough. A banner in your app can stay up all month.
- Stories stay up for 90 days after you publish, then the links stop working.
